Fafda | Gujarati Fafda | Gram Flour Snack

Fafda is famous Gujarati snack. It is made from Gram flour mixed with spices. Generally, it goes well with kadhi chutney and raw papaya (sambharo).



INGREDIENTS: FOR 12 FafdaS

Gram flour (Besan).............. 1 Cup
Salt ............................ As per taste
Ajwain seeds ....................... ½ tsp
Black pepper powder .......... ½ tsp
Oil ...................................... 1 Tbsp.
Asafoetida ........................... ¼ tsp
Water .......................... As needed
Baking soda or Eno ............. 1 tsp
Oil ............................. For deep fry


DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a bowl take gram flour, black pepper powder, ajwain, salt, asafoetida, oil and mix them well. 
  2. On top sprinkle baking soda or Eno.  Slowly add a little water on top of baking soda or Eno and prepare the hard dough.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  4. Now divide dough into 12 equal parts.
  5. Put one part on a flat surface. With a base of palm drag the ball into a straight line to prepare like the thick strip. With thin knife take out this in one shot. 
  6. Repeat the same process for remaining parts and prepare all strips.
  7. Once the oil is ready to fry strips on medium heat till it becomes crispy.
  8. Fafda can be served with kadhi chutney and papaya sambharo.
