Dabeli | Potato Stuffed Masala Burger

Dabeli is a famous street food of India, originating in the Kutch region of Gujarat. It is a spicy snack made by mixing boiled potatoes with a dabeli masala, and putting the mixture between round pav ( burger bun) along with pomegranate, roasted peanuts, besan sev, chopped onions, and chutneys. This is an easy recipe with ready made dabeli masala, so make this delicious dabeli at home and enjoy!




INGREDIENTS: FOR 12 DABELI

Boiled potato ........................ 4 Medium
Dabeli masala .......................... 100 gm
Oil ............................................. 2 Tbsp.
Onion chopped ......................... ¼ Cup
Masala peanut .......................... ¼ Cup
Pomegranate seeds ................. ¼ Cup
Besan thin sev ........................ ¼ Cup
Shredded coconut .................... ¼ Cup
Coriander leaves chopped ....... ¼ Cup
Garlic chutney .................. As needed
Tamarind dates chutney .. As needed
Butter .................................. As needed
Tomato sauce ..................... As needed


DIRECTIONS:
  1. Peel boiled potato and mash it. Take oil in pan and heat, add dabeli masala and saute’ for a minute. (I am using ‘Shree Ganesh Kutchi Dabeli masala’. It is wet masala which comes in 100-gram packet).  
  2. Add mashed potato in a pan and mix it well with dabeli masala.  Cook for a couple of minutes then take out the pan from heat and spread the mixture on deep plate or thali.
  3. Sprinkle chopped onions, masala peanut, pomegranate seeds, besan thin sev, shredded coconut, coriander leaves on potato masala.  
  4. Now press a little bit with the spoon. Then cut fillings in 12 equal square part.
  5. Slice the bun into two if it is not the separate bun. Now spread garlic chutney on one part of the bun and spread tamarind dates chutney on another part of the bun. 
  6. Put one part of dabeli fillings on one part of bun over chutney and put another part of bun on top. Prepare all dabeli like this.
  7. Apply little butter on both sides of each dabeli and roast on tawa.  Once dabeli is golden brown in color on both side remove from the tawa.
  8. Garnish dabeli with tomato sauce, and sev and serve hot.
