Masala Idli | Onion-Tomato Idli

Masala idli is an instant recipe that you can use your leftover Idlis. In this recipe, idli pieces mix with onion tomato gravy. Masala idli serves as snack or breakfast.



INGREDIENTS: for 2-3 servings

Idli ............................................  8-10
Oil ........................................  3 Tbsp.
Mustard seeds ........................ 1 tsp.
Urad dal ..............................  1 Tbsp.
Asafoetida .............................  ½ tsp.
Curry leaves .............................  6-7
Onion chopped .................... ½ Cup
Tomato chopped .................. ½ Cup
Green chili chopped ..........  ½ Tbsp.
Ginger paste ...........................  1 tsp.
Coriander leaves chopped ... 2 Tbsp.
Red chili powder ....................  1 tsp.
Turmeric powder ...................  ¼ tsp.
Salt ............................... As per taste



DIRECTIONS:
  1. Cut each idli in 9 pieces.
  2. Take 3 tbsp oil in pan and heat over medium flame.  Add mustard seeds, when mustard seeds crackle add urad dal.
  3. After sauteing’ for few seconds add curry leaves, asafoetida, and chopped onions.
  4. While sauteing’ onion, add green chili chopped, ginger paste, turmeric powder, salt and mix well.
  5. Now add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, chopped coriander leaves and mix well.  Cook for 2-3 minutes then add idli pieces and mix well.
  6. Remove from heat and serve.
