Palak Masala Idli | Spinach Masala Idli

Palak(spinach) masala idli is a delightful and healthy side dish for lunch or dinner. As everyone knows palak(spinach) is a healthy leafy vegetable, so here is the recipe of palak masala idli which is quite delicious and flavorful. It is made mixing palak puree into masala gravy and then adds idli pieces into palak masala gravy.



INGREDIENTS: for 2-3 servings

Idli ..........................................  8-10
Oil .......................................  3 Tbsp.
Mustard seeds ....................... 1 tsp.
Cumin seeds .......................... 1 tsp.
Urad dal .............................  1 Tbsp.
Asafoetida ............................  ½ tsp.
Onion chopped ................... ½ Cup
Tomato chopped ................. ½ Cup
Green chili chopped ..........  1 Tbsp.
Ginger paste .........................  1 tsp.
Palak(spinach)leaves ......  1 Bunch
Red chili powder ...................  1 tsp.
Garam masala powder ........  ½ tsp.
Freshly grated coconut  .....  2 Tbsp.
Salt ............................. As per taste



DIRECTIONS:
  1. Cut each idli in 9 pieces and keep it aside.
  2. Boil palak(spinach) leaves in water for about 8-10 minutes without cover it.   Then  remove leaves from the water and make a  paste into the grinder.
  3. Take 3 tbsp.oil in pan and heat over medium flame. Add mustard seeds, when mustard seeds crackle add urad dal.
  4. After sauteing’ for few seconds add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and chopped onions.
  5. While sauteing’ onion, add green chili chopped, ginger paste, salt and mix well.
  6. Now add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, and mix well.  Cook for 2-3 minutes then add palak puree and let it cook on low-medium flame.
  7. After a couple of minutes add idli pieces, garam masala powder and mix well.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with grated fresh coconut.
