Potato Masala | Masala For Dosa

Potato masala is an excellent accompaniment to the south Indian meals. It is mainly used as Masala for Dosa. It is a popular South Indian dish also served with a puri, roti, or any Indian flat bread. Potato masala is the favorite subji of all. With little variation you can utilize it for so many dishes like; aloo bonda( batata vada), samosa, potato sandwich etc;



INGREDIENTS: for 3-4 servings

Boiled potato ...............  4 Medium
Onion slices ........................ 1 Cup
Urad dal ...........................  2 Tbsp.
Chana dal .........................  2 Tbsp .
Curry leaves ..........................  7-8
Green chili chopped .........  2 Tbsp.
Ginger paste ....................  1 Tbsp.
Oil .....................................  3 Tbsp.
Asafoetida ..........................  ½ tsp.
Mustard seeds ..................... 1 tsp.
Turmeric powder ................  ½ tsp.
Salt ............................ As per taste


DIRECTIONS:
  1. Wash and soak chana dal for 4 -5 hours. 
  2. Take 3 tbsp oil in pan and heat over medium flame. Add mustard seeds, when mustard seeds crackle add urad dal. 
  3. After sauteing’ for few seconds add curry leaves, asafoetida, and onion slices. While sauteing’ onion, add soaked chana dal, green chili chopped, ginger paste, turmeric powder, salt and mix well. 
  4. Peel boiled potato and mash it. Add potato in a pan and mix well. (Here you can add red chili powder if desired). But I like only with green chili. 
  5. Serve with dosa, puri or any flat Indian bread.
