Red Chora Curry | Red Cow Peas Curry| Gujarati Style Red Chora Curry

Red chora is known as chora in Gujarat. Like other beans, they are very nutritious and have high iron content. This is Gujarati style chora recipe which is easy and quick. It goes well with any kind of roti.




INGREDIENTS: for 3-4 servings

Red chora whole ................  1 Cup
Water ..................................  3 Cup
Oil ......................................  3 Tbsp.
Asafoetida ..........................  ½ tsp.
Mustard seeds .....................  1 tsp.
Cumin seeds ......................  ½ tsp.
Curry leaves ...........................  5-6
Bay leaves ..............................  3-4
Red chili whole ........................... 2
Red chili powder .............. ½ Tbsp.
Turmeric powder .................. ¼ tsp.
Salt ............................  As per taste
Tamarind paste ................. ½ Tbsp.
Jaggery .............................  3 Tbsp.



DIRECTIONS:
  1. Soak the red chora for 7 to 8 hours then pressure cook with salt and 3 cups of water for 6-7 whistle. 
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds crackle add cumin seeds, red chili whole, asafoetida, bay leaves and curry leaves. 
  3. Then add cooked chora with water and mix well. Add jaggery, little more salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder and cook on a medium flame for 5 to 6 minutes, while stirring occasionally. ( Here you can add more water as per your need.) 
  4. Now add tamarind paste and mix well. Take it out from heat. 
  5. Serve with wheat roti or rice.
