Athela Marcha | Green Chili Pickle

Athela Marcha is a Gujarati style chili pickle. A delectable pickle made with medium chilies with a tongue-tickling mixture of crushed mustard seeds, salt, asafoetida and turmeric powder spiked up with a dash of lemon. You need to let the pickle stand for at least one day before serving, to allow the flavors to soak into the chilies.

INGREDIENTS:

Medium chili ........................  20 -22
Oil .......................................  4 Tbsp.
Asafoetida ............................  ¼ tsp.
Crushed Mustard seeds .....  3 Tbsp.
Turmeric powder ................... ½ tsp.
Salt .............................  As per taste
Lime juice ...........................  1 Tbsp

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Wash & dry medium chilies. Cut chilies lengthwise and prepare slices. Remove seeds for reducing hotness.
  2. Mix crushed mustard seeds, salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida.
  3. Heat 4 tbsp oil in a pan. Add hot oil into mixed spices.
  4. Add green chili slices and mix well.
  5. Add lime juice and mix it again.
  6. Fill into an airtight glass jar. Keep it aside for 24-48 hours. In between shake well for 3-4 times.
  7. You need to let the pickle stand for at least one day before serving, to allow the flavors to soak into the chilies.

Note: If you store this in an airtight container in the refrigerator, it will last for a 2-3 weeks.
