Falafel | Felafel Recipe | Chickpea Falafel

Falafel is crispy deep fried ball has tender interiors with a good internal balance of chickpea, parsley, and spice. Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern food, commonly served in a pita bread, or wrapped in a flatbread known as lafa. Falafel balls may also be eaten alone as a snack or served as part of appetizers.



INGREDIENTS: for 18-20 Falafel

Chickpea  .................................. 1 Cup
Chopped onion ......................... ½ Cup
Garlic clove ......................................  3
Whole red chili …………...…….……. 2
Chopped parsley ………........... ¼ Cup
Chickpea flour ......................... 2 Tbsp
Coriander seeds ……….......... ½ Tbsp
Cumin seeds ………………........ 1  tsp.
Sesame seeds ………….......... 2 Tbsp
Black pepper ……………...........  1 tsp.
Salt .................................. As per taste
Oil ........................................ For frying


DIRECTIONS:
  1. Wash and soak chickpea for 8-10 hours.
  2. In the bowl of a food processor, combine soaked chickpea, chopped onion, garlic clove, whole red chili and grind to a thick paste.
  3. Add chickpea flour, chopped parsley, sesame seeds and salt and process for 30 more seconds.
  4. Transfer into a bowl.
  5. Crush coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and black pepper separately in mortal or grinder and add into chickpea paste.
  6. Heat oil in kadai on medium heat.  With the help of small ice cream scoop or any regular spoon drop around 2 Tbsp. of batter in oil. You can also drop the batter with your hands.
  7. Deep fry on a slow flame till the falafel are golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper and keep aside.
