Fulwadi | Traditional Fulwadi Recipe | Famous Gujarati Snack

Fulwadi is a traditional Gujarati snack which is perfect blend of sour, sweet and spicy taste. In old days it is very common in Gujarati marriages and other occasions. It is made from coarse chickpea flour, yogurt, sugar and lots of spices as main ingredients. It can be eaten alone or served with a hot cup of tea/ coffee.It also goes well with masala yogurt.




INGREDIENTS: for 5 cups of fulwadi

Coarse Gram flour ...........  2 Cup
Oil .................................... 6 Tbsp.
Salt .......................... As per taste
Fennel seeds ..................  1 Tbsp
Sesame seeds ................  2 Tbsp
Whole black pepper .......  1 Tbsp
Whole coriander seeds ...  2 Tbsp
Red chili powder .............  1 Tbsp
Sugar ..............................  3 Tbsp
Turmeric powder ...............  Pinch
Yogurt  …………………...  ½ Cup
Water ........................... If needed
Oil ...........................  For deep fry


DIRECTIONS:
  1. In a bowl take coarse gram flour. Add oil and mix well. Add whole black pepper, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, sesame seeds, red chili powder, salt, turmeric powder and mix well. Then add yogurt and mix well. if needed add little water and knead into a soft dough.  
  2. Cover it and keep it aside for 5-6 hours.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Greased fulwadi zara ( the round shaped big spoon with large holes).
  4. Once the oil is ready set the fulwadi zara direct on the oil and take fulwadi dough on other hand and rub the dough on the zara. Deep fry on a medium flame till light brown and crisp.
  5. With the help of slotted spoon remove extra oil and place them on an absorbent napkin.
  6. Repeat the same process for remaining dough.
  7. Allow them to cool and store in an airtight container.
